Pyridoxamine The Rare Anti-aging B Vitamin

DFH Metabolic Synergy™ Vegetarian Capsules with Pyridoxamine

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) classifies an describes vitamin B6 as a water-soluble vitamin existing in three major chemical forms: pyridoxine, pyridoxal, and pyridoxamine.

Pyridoxamine is the rarest form of B6. Interest in it centers on its ability to reduce oxidative stress and its potent late-stage anti-glycation abilities, helping to reduce the number of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs).

AGE formation occurs in stages, both early and late. Pyridoxamine has been shown to be effective for late stage AGE formation. In animal research, it has inhibited both the development and the progression of diabetic nephropathy in type 1 and 2 diabetes. (Nephropathy is a progressive condition in which blood vessels in the kidney become irreparably damaged.) Human trials are ongoing but show promise at doses of 50 mg twice daily. Even at 300 mg daily, no serious side effects or contraindications have been observed.

Pyridoxamine has been shown

inhibits formation of AGEs*

is important in both diabetes and arteriosclerosis

protects against vascular damage

may be useful in treating diabetic retinopathy

inhibits renal disease and decreases hyperlipidemia in diabetic rats

inhibits progression of nephropathy in the diabetic cat

inhibits super oxide radicals and prevents lipid peroxidation

inhibits chemical modification of proteins

restores beta cell function in diabetic studies

inhibits retinopathy and neuropathy in diabetic laboratory studies

Dosages: Normal dosages are considered to be 50 mg once daily.

*Glycation (sometimes called non-enzymatic glycosylation) occurs when a glucose (sugar) molecule binds to a protein molecule without the influence of enzymes, proteins that accelerate the rate of chemical reactions. In scientific terms these sugar/protein bondings are referred to as AGEs (advanced glycation end products).

Most degenerative diseases are affected in one way or another by disease-producing glycation reactions. These reactions result in major damage to the body, including arterial stiffening; arteriosclerosis (the clogging, narrowing, and hardening of the blood vessels); the formation of cataracts; neurological impairment, diabetic complications; and wrinkled, sagging skin.

The formation of AGEs is responsible for serious damage to the body, both internally and externally. Our body is composed mainly of protein. AGEs are highly destructive to this protein. If glycation gets out of hand, many proteins that are vitally important for proper functioning of the body will be degraded or destroyed. Prevention is the key - with foods that fight AGEs and the very best nutrients for preventing and helping to reverse the effects of AGEs.
