Your brain requires energy and raw materials to power the 11 systems of the body, including the brain's one hundred billion neurons and one quadrillion energy-demanding synapses for optimal neuronal health, synaptic growth and health maintenance, particularly as one ages!

One hundred Billion neurons, 10,000 connections, for nearly one quadrillion - that's 1,000,000,000,000,000 - total connections, or synapses, in your wonderful brain that need cognitive protection, on a daily basis, for everyone, regardless of your biochemical Cognoscopy status. (everyone over the age of 40 is at risk for cognitive decline!)

The Bredesen Protocol - Optimize nutrition and cognitive protection with supplements. Dr. Bredesen recommends the following daily for everyone with cognitive decline or at risk for cognitive decline, unless one's Cognoscopy values are optimal for each biochemical parameter.

ALCAR (Acetyl-L-Carnitine) 500 mg to increase levels of nerve growth factor, especially for those with any contributions from Type 2 Alzheimer's

Vitamin B1, 50 mg - important for memory formation.

Vitamins B6 / B9 Folate / B2 combination - ALL IN THEIR ACTIVE FORMS: B6 P5P Pyridoxal-5-phosphate (P5P); B9 Methyl Folate; B12 methylcobalamin. (Check out Pure Caps B Complex Plus)

Vitamin C, 500 mg to 1 gram for those with suboptimal Vitamin C levels or who have copper:zinc ratios greater than 1:2.

Citicoline, 250 mg twice per day, to support brain synaptic growth and maintenance.

Vitamin D, starting with 2500 IU per day until serum levels reach 50 to 80.

Vitamin E as mixed tocopherols and tocotrienols 400 - 800 IU, for those with vitamin E levels less than 13.

Vitamin K, 100 mcg, and for those taking Vitamin D only also take vitamin K as . Vitamins D3 and K2 work together, adding D on its own can deplete vitamin K2 in the body. When taking D, it’s also important to get adequate amounts of magnesium to ensure you can absorb calcium effectively.

Nicotinamide riboside, 100 mg, for all.

Omega-3 fatty acids. Combo of Omega-3 and curcumin helps prevent new inflammation

Polyquinolie quinone (PQQ), 10 to 20 mg, to increase mitochondrial number for everyone, for all.

Resveratrol, 100 mg, for all

Ubiquinol, 100 mg, to support mitchondrial function in everyone, for all.

Whole Cofee Fruit Extract (WCFE), 100 mg once or twice per day for three months, then withdraw slowly over one month, and is especially important for those with Type 2 atrophic Alzheimer's Disease.

HERBS that support synaptic function, take every day unless specified otherwise:

Ashwagandha, 500 mg, twice per day with meals. This helps in the reduction of amyloid plaque, as well as handling stress.

Bacopa monnieri, 250 mg, twice per day with meals, to improve cholinergic function, one of the brain's key neurotransmitter systems. (Ashwaghanda and bacopa are also available as nasal drops, if you prefer this to capsules, take 3 drops per nostril daily.

Gotu Kola, 500 mg, twice per day with meals, to increase focus and alertness.

Hericium erinaceus (Lion's Mane), 500 mg once or twice a day, to increase never growth factor, especially for those with Type 2 Alzheimer's Disease.

Rhodiola, 200 mg, once or twice per day, for those with anxiety and stress.

Shankhpushpi (Skull Cap), taken 2 to 3 teaspoons or 2 capsules per day, to enhance branching of neurons in the hippoampus.

Misc. for Type 1 and Type 2:

Guduchi, 300 mg with meals, 2 to 3 times per day, for those with Type 3 (toxic) Alzheimer's Disease, Mild Cognitive Impairment MCI or Subjective Cognitive Impairment SCI, this is helpful to boost immune support, remove toxicity in the gut. This is typically taken as capsules of Guggul Extract, 350 or 750 mg per day.

Triphala - for those with Type 1 (inflammatory ALZ, MCI or SCI), a combination of amalaki, haaaritaki, and bibhitaki - is usefuol to reduce inflammation. This is best taken on an empty stomach either as a capsule or by making a tea from the powder.

*Nutrigenomics is a branch of nutritional genomics and is the study of the effects of foods  and food constituents on gene expression. This means that nutrigenomics is research focusing on identifying and understanding molecular-level interaction between nutrients and other dietary bioactives with the genome. Nutrigenomics has also been described by the influence of genetic variation on nutrition by correlating gene expression or SNF's  with a nutrient's absorption, metabolism, elimination or biological effects. By doing so, nutrigenomics aims to develop rational means to optimise nutrition with respect to the subject's genotype.

By determining the mechanism of the effects of nutrients or the effects of a nutritional regime, nutrigenomics tries to define the causality|relationship between these specific nutrients and specific nutrient regimes (diets) on human health. Nutrigenomics has been associated with the idea of personalized nutrition based on genotype. While there is hope that nutrigenomics will ultimately enable such personalised dietary advice, it is a science still in its infancy and its contribution to public health over the next decade is thought to be major. While nutrigenomics is aimed at developing an understanding of how the whole body responds to a food via systems biology, research into the effect of a single gene/single food compound relationships is known as nutrigenetics.
